This Industrial IoT device is a USB to RS-485 adapter, which doesn't require a driver and doesn't install a virtual COM port.
It is able to send and receive data on a RS485 bus. In addition, it is also able to autonomously query devices (e.g., using MODBUS) and interpret the received replies to expose them as if they came from a Yoctopuce sensor. This has advantages like: unique identifier, polling, callbacks, and a datalogger.
Be aware that this device will not work with applications designed to use a COM port: it is designed to be used with Yoctopuce sensor hubs.
The sensor device is electrically isolated, which means it can be connected on a RS-485 bus using a different ground circuit. The Yocto-RS485 conforms to ANSI/TIA/EIA-485-A-98 and ISO 8482:1987(E) standards, and provides a ±15 kV ESD protection on RS-485 input/output pins.
